Mesh, solid hood, foam insert and brush types all clean differently. If you know the brand or have a photo, include it in the request. Not knowing is fine; a photo of the roof edge helps us decide whether it is a quick lift-and-rinse or a longer job.

Ask any company whether it has handled your style of cover before and what lifting it means for the product's manufacturer terms. That last point is for the manufacturer and the installer to answer. We clean guards; we do not install or replace them.

Red flags

Be cautious of any company that does one of these:

• Offers a flat price without asking what kind of guard it is
• Plans to pry covers off with metal tools near old shingles
• Never mentions rinsing the cover itself
• Pushes you to buy replacement covers on the spot

Frequency and trees

Live oaks shed over many months rather than in a single autumn drop, according to UF/IFAS (oak guide), so a visit schedule of one a year may leave a covered gutter loaded for a long stretch. After we see your roof, we can suggest an interval.
